Michael Opitz is currently the Director of Technology and Security at Ovation Communities. His current responsibilities include leading the direction of all aspects of technology and physical security in the organization as well as being the HIPAA Security Officer, who is responsible for maintaining compliance to HIPAA related laws and regulations.
In 2001 Michael served as the Security Chief of the Central Council of Jews in Germany where he is originally from. A large part of his responsibilities also included managing the IT environment within the organization. Later Michael was later given the opportunity to turn his passion of computers and IT into his profession when Michael started working as the full time System and Network Administrator for the council.
In 2008 he moved to the United States. Beginning a life in a new country meant where he had to start over in many aspects of his life including his career. He started as a Sr. IT Technician for Ace World Wide, a nationwide transportation and logistics company. Despite the economic downturn of 2008 he successfully worked his way back up to a Systems Administrator by 2009 and was later promoted to IT Manager in 2011 and lastly to Director of IT in 2013. In his time at Ace World Wide, Michael successfully led a variety of large scale projects across all domains of IT and managed strategic planning for the technology needs of the company under the CEO and CFO.
After moving to the U.S., Michael Opitz pursued two degrees and now holds a Bachelor of Science in IT Network Design and Management as well as a Masters of Business Administration in IT Management in addition to being a Microsoft certified MCSA, MCSE and holding other certifications from CIW and CompTIA. Michael is a member of HIMSS, global, not-for-profit organization focused on better health through information and technology.
