Ovation Communities recently honored Jewish heritage with two immersive programs designed to deepen cultural connection and celebrate Israel. With a strong focus on experience-based engagement, residents were offered meaningful opportunities to connect with their Jewish identity and traditions.
On May 1, in celebration of Yom HaAtzmaut—Israel’s Independence Day—Ovation transformed its campus for a unique event titled Passport to Israel. Residents began their “journey” in the campus theater, which was converted into a mock airplane, simulating a flight that landed at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport. From there, residents “toured” Israeli cities such as Haifa and Tel Aviv, sampling regional treats and enjoying themed décor and activities. A highlight of the event was a visit to a recreated kibbutz in the Chai Point lobby, where residents planted flowers, echoing the agricultural spirit of early Israeli life. Another deeply meaningful stop was a mock Western Wall. Residents were invited to write personal notes, prayers, and reflections, which were then collected and sent to the actual Western Wall in Jerusalem—a tradition that brought an emotional and spiritual dimension to the day.
Rabbi Steven Adams, who led the initiative, emphasized the importance of holistic Jewish engagement. The event was warmly received by residents, and Rabbi Adams is looking forward to refining and expanding it next year.
“It’s vital for me to offer not just the spiritual elements of Judaism, but the cultural ones too. This program truly achieved that.”
– Rabbi Steven Adams
Earlier this winter, Ovation also launched Jews Around the World, a culinary and educational series exploring Jewish communities through their cuisine. Developed in collaboration with Amy Gelfman and the Culinary Jewish Academy, the program featured immersive cooking videos led by Chef Danny Corsun. Amy Gelfman enhanced the experience with live cooking instruction, while residents and guests sampled traditional dishes from Jewish communities around the globe. Rabbi Adams provided historical and educational context, sharing the rich cultural history behind each meal. The program was open to the broader Jewish community and proved to be a great success. “It’s rare to see this level of community interest,” Rabbi Adams noted. “The engagement and enthusiasm really affirmed the power of food and culture to bring people together.”
At Ovation Communities, fostering deep, joyful, and educational Jewish experiences is central to the mission. These programs exemplify the organization’s commitment to creating vibrant, culturally rich moments for residents and the wider community.
